This workshop presented ways to heal the invisible wounds of war in veterans, their families and their communities. All of the presenters were military veterans with years of experience in facing, treating and overcoming their own invisible wounds and helping others to do the same.
Healing Circle Facilitator Training

Dr. David Hammer, Executive Director and Co-Founder of “All the Way Home” attended a healing circle facilitator training workshop sponsored and lead by Dr. John Schluep, Founder of “Warrior’s Journey Home” in Tallmadge, Ohio.
The training was held January 30 and 31 and involved veterans and non-veterans from six states. Five of the training session graduates returned to their states trained and ready to begin facilitating healing circles in their home communities.
- Goals of the training were to prepare facilitators to
- Start and sustain a healing community for veterans and their families;
- Involve and educate the wider community;
- Understand the nuances of military service;
- Bring soul healing and spiritual care of veterans and their families to the wider community;
- Implement healing ceremonies, rituals, and retreats.

David facilitated the healing circle that was held at the end of the workshop. Each of the newly trained facilitators was given a “Talking Stick” created for them by Denny Wade, a Navy Viet Nam veteran of Cherokee descent.
This was David’s third trip to Ohio to undergo training and mentoring with Dr. Schluep and to participate in healing circles and a sweat lodge.
