David Hammer, Co-Director
Dr. David Hammer is professor emeritus in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Missouri. A Vietnam veteran who flew 100 combat missions as an A4 jet pilot, David was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps after he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1968. David experienced a delayed onset of moral injury symptoms, diagnosed as PTS, a condition with which he deals on a daily basis. As a consequence of his own dealings with the moral injuries of war, and the national crisis facing America with the moral injuries of returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, David has dedicated himself to increasing public awareness of this problem and finding solutions for veterans and their families. He the father of two children.
